Baghdad Rawaq Discusses Iraq-Kuwait Maritime Agreement and Khor Abdullah Dispute
In a panel titled "Khor Abdullah: Between Historical, Geographical Realities and Political Tensions," the Baghdad Rawaq Center for Public Policies hosted a discussion with MPs, legal experts, and academics on the controversy surrounding the Iraq-Kuwait maritime navigation agreement.
Speakers highlighted Iraq’s historical and legal claims to sovereignty over its waters, expressing support for the Federal Supreme Court’s 2023 decision to annul the agreement. Others noted the challenges posed by internal political divisions and the complex regional climate.
The event comes amid growing parliamentary and public calls for the government to cancel the 2013 agreement with Kuwait and uphold the court's ruling.
